Jana Forster, born in Upper Austria in 1995, is a multidisciplinary artist and aspiring psychologist whose work explores the relationship between the psyche and the natural world. From 2017 to 2021, she pursued her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Vienna, where she continues to work towards her Master’s degree. Her academic journey in psychology complements her artistic endeavours, supporting understanding of the human condition. Since 2018 she is studying at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, under Judith Eisler in the Department of Painting and Animation. Themes in her work include emotions, self-perception, relating to the world, often depicting the body as the physical manifestation of the emotional landscape. Her influences include classical illustration, comics, and East Asian art history, primarily executed through oil painting and relief-printing. Her interest in non-toxic printing techniques led her to a study exchange at Tokyo University of Art (Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku), where she studied Japanese water-based woodblock printmaking for six months under Michael Schneider.
